Sitting at his desk reading the paper, Calub contemplated what he would do for the rest of his night. What he didn't know at the time was there was no need to plan. This night would take a life of it's own. What he thought would be the end of his day was just the beginning. No, no need for him to plan. Destiny had made his plans for him, he was just along for the ride.
Flipping through the pages of the Daily Bugle, Calub came across an article on the death of Chandler Bentley, father of a long time friend Alex Bentley. He hadn't spoken with Alex since they graduated at ESU together. He was under the impression that Alex was still in Europe chasing women as he was the last they spoke, that is until this article came about. He knew he had to try and find him and see how his friend was.
Leaving the university, Calub slid his jacket over his shoulders and reached in his pocket, taking out his phone. Searching his contacts, he found an old phone number for Alex and gave it a try. What he got was the reception desk at Bentley Software. After some quick questions, the receptionist handed him to Alex's Assistant who pointed him in the direction of Time Square.
Making his way to the Square, it was packed with people ending their day trying to make it home. The city bustled with traffic and noise as Calub made his way to the little cafe that Alex's assistant said he would be at. When arriving though, Calub could not find his friend.
Calub stood in the cafe and closed his eyes, hearing thoughts from everyone in the surrounding area hoping that one of them would be Alex. So many thoughts he sifted through, trying to make sense of it all. It was almost overwhelming with the amount of people in the area but he had to focus, and focus he did.
He heard a faint whimper coming from the alley behind the cafe. Thoughts of pain and a horrible scene, a murder. The image pushed itself into Calub's mind. It was horrible. A very brutal death and he knew at that moment it was Alex, as in the image was his father, torn to pieces, pinned on the wall.
Calub rushed outside to the alley. There he seen his friend, on the ground, unshaven, hair and clothes a mess. "Alex!" Calub called out as he approached him quickly. Helping him up Calub got a whiff of alcohol and smokes that poured from his breath. "You ok buddy? Let's get you home." Calub said as they walked to his car.
